Six runners spread across 4 meetings on Friday and although an ease in temperatures is forecast the firm ground persists and it will be tough going for a majority of the Somerville Lodge representatives.
The exception will be Matins who races in a match in the 2.03 at Yarmouth he will be in the region of 1/33 on and although the yard did suffer a defeat with a horse that went off 1/22 previously it is unlikely to happen again.

35 minutes later Majestic Jude has his second run in the 2yo Novice stakes at 2.38. This would probably have been a bet in previous years but there is no doubt this season when asked to run a second time on fast ground the 2yo’s are not progressing from their debut run. The evidence is very clear.
Eleven Haggas 2yo’s have had two runs this season. On their second outing 9 on ground described as Good to Firm have been beaten. 2 have ran on either Good or Good to Soft ground – both have Won.
On that basis on Friday it rules out not just Majestic Jude but also Diplomata 3.23 Epsom and Sweetwonderfulyou 4.10 Newbury as betting opportunities as all will be asked to back up on Good to Firm. One or two may cope but it is guesswork.

It is entirely possible that Cieren Fallon, if he gets a soft lead on Creative Queen in the 4.25 Yarmouth 5f sprint can coax a second win out of the disappointing 3yo. However, she has a wide draw in stall 8 and her performance when dropped to 5f for the first time at Ripon was again disappointing. She would not be a bet even if the yard was firing on all cylinders and certainly not during the current spell.

Finally at Newmarket in the maiden at 5.53 the Wootton Bassett filly Evening Call makes her debut in a 3 runner race, in which the Gosden filly Gilding the Lily sets a high standard.
