There are big risks in backing horses that are going dependent Ante-Post but this morning following his impressive win last Saturday Lake Forest was given an official rating of 119.
He is currently quoted at 20/1 by several firms for the Day 1 Royal Ascot feature.
There are 6 horses priced lower than the newly gelded 5yo in the market, all are within 6lb of the new Lake Forest mark.
- Damysus 5/1 rated 120
- Notable Speech 5/1 rated 122
- Zeus Olympios 6/1 rated 120
- Opera Ballo 8/1 rated 125
- Field of Gold 10/1 rated 125
- Docklands 12/1 rated 118
That could all change after the Lockinge on Saturday but with Field of Gold a very doubtful runner in the Queen Anne after a setback, Notable Speech and Docklands already having been subject to transatlantic racing in USA and Hong Kong, Damysus at least until Saturday unproven over a mile and Opera Bello leaning towards a step up to 9f + and possibly the Eclipse the current top 7 in the market could be reduced down to 2 or 3 runners come the 15th June.
In any event, such was the improvement shown by Lake Forest at Haydock his first run following the gelding operation that it is perfectly feasible that he has scope to improve at least another 5lb with that seasonal debut behind him.
Connections have stated after the Haydock win, that the Queen Anne is the ‘primary summer target’ so it is very much on to run in the race that opens the festival.
Our bet could be scuppered by a soggy lead up to the meeting but at 20/1 its a risk worth taking.
Recommended Ante Post Bet 0.5pt EW 20/1 (1-2-3 places) Lake Forest Queen Anne stakes Royal Ascot.
