With only 5 runners declared, at first glance the 0-85 Class 4 Handicap at Nottingham on Tuesday looks a tricky betting race . A deeper look at the contest confirms that all 5 have a good chance of progressing sufficiently to win the prize, and the early markets have Distant Shore backed from 9/4 into odds on.
The William Haggas trained Darzah is next best at 10/3. Although she is proven on the ground the market strength for Distant Shore for the Roger Varian yard who has a handle on the form through stable mate Silent City who was behind Darzah at HQ looks very significant.
On Wednesday Caraway will prefer the fast ground at Leicester than when the soft ground turned against her at Nottingham on her last outing. This looks a very trappy 4 horse contest and is not a betting race.
Our bet on Monday Lady Rosalind unfortunately was a big disappointment at Windsor where the signs in the paddock before the race where ominous and she duly drifted from 11/8 to 13/8 at the off.
She was beaten after a furlong and has gone backwards from her Ripon win.
