Haggas movers clean up..

No runners on Tuesday after Mondays rather strange entries, which as expected were not betting opportunities.

Haggas has entered 30 horses on Saturday and Sunday with the expectation that the forecast rain will produce better ground.

Keep an eye open for any horses entered this week that have previously been trained at Somerville Lodge and moved to new yards since the Autumn of 2025. There have been a host of winners including a purple patch of 5 in the last 7 days. Over the past 50 days there have been 10 winners. There have been probably been about 25 runners in total ( I may have missed a couple). Obviously backing the yards former inmates currently shows a huge level stakes profit.

A few to note over the next couple of weeks that look ready to win. Cairdeas for Paul Midgley, Approval over hurdles in Ireland for Eddie McNamara and Henrietta Ronner and Regalian for Tony Coyle.

There have been a few disappointments the Jack Channon pair Godwinson and Concert. The Jamie Insole trained ( very slow) Seconds Out and Charlie Johnston has failed to get a win out of Sir William.

Far from disappointing is the Oli Rex trained Noble Horizon (13/2) who narrowly missed out on winning a Class 2 handicap at Glorious Goodwood after winning at 6/1 at Leicester in June.

I will keep readers updated with future runners to see if the purple patch continues. It goes to show the patience and attention to detail afforded by William Haggas and his team to their horses has a long term benefit for the future, even after their time at Somerville Lodge .

Archivist will be frustrating for William Haggas who always believed that the the horse was up to winning Group races and was only moved out of the yard due to the Cheveley Park Studs general policy of selling their 3yo geldings.

It just wasn’t meant to be at Somerville Lodge for Archivist who started his career with Michael Stoute – he was the banker of the week at Royal Ascot in 2025 but was the last horse to be balloted out of the Golden Gates.

There is plenty of rain forecast this week and cooler conditions which is good news for all horses in training. Hopefully Paris will get a good soaking over the next couple of weeks and then enjoy a dry spell through to Arc day. The weekend results were very positive for the chances of Maltese Cross and the 10/1 has disappeared and the best price of 8/1 will not last long, connections have confirmed that the Arc rather than the St Leger is his next target. Don’t jump on Infraad he will also miss the Doncaster classic as it is thought to come to soon after the Melrose. He will wait for a Group 2 in Germany.
